The realization that waste in the environment can be collected, recycled and re-used back in the society. Our model is simple, collect waste in the environment, recycle into biomass briquettes and give it back to the cyclic economy as a product that replaces firewood therefore reduces deforestation. The biomass briquettes are high calorific value, economical and 100% eco-friendly, they reduce carbon emissions in the environment. The innovation creates jobs directly and indirectly along the value chain especially to the youth and women most disadvantaged in the society. The innovation offers proper waste management practices, controls pollution and gives an additional source of income to millers.

Problem

The demand for energy in East Africa is increasing both for households and businesses. Increasing populations, aggressive deforestation and expanding economies have led to increasing fuel prices and shortages. In Kenya, biomass energy is the largest form of primary energy. Over 95% of about 20,000 institutions (schools, colleges, hospitals) in Kenya use fuel wood as the main source of energy for cooking and heating water.
