Stage 4: Transition to Scale
To date, Kitovu has a fully developed mobile and web application with remote sensory and NDVI capabilities. We have been operating commercially since 2018, working with 7,450 farmers and revenue to date a little shy of $90,000.

Farmers in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa achieve very low yields (a third of global yield averages according to a 2008 IFPRI World Development Report).
Fragmented markets and the activities of middlemen means that smallholder farmers are unable to find markets which offer fair prices for their produce.
Kitovu provides quality and yield increasing inputs and access to markets by using remote sensing and data science to collect and analyze field, soil and market demand data, enabling them to recommend precise inputs and markets.

Our mission is to transform Africa into the food hub of the world by using technology to unlock yields and access to markets for smallholder farmers.
By collecting soil and market demand data that we analyze and aggregate, we are able to accurately pinpoint the nutrient needs of a particular soil and get fertilizers that match that specific nutrient needs blended and supplied to the farmers. When these location-specific fertilizers are combined with quality seeds and good agricultural practices provided by our agent network, the result is a yield increase. This prevents soils from being poisoned with serious doses of mismatched fertilizers. This also means that farmers are able to grow more from fewer lands; as such, they don't have to clear more forests. It also means farmers spend less to produce more. The market demand data, on the other hand, enables us to give farmers information on the crop varieties and specifications to grow so as to guarantee offtake from commodity buyers. As a result, we are able to provide an end to end solution for farmers, from farm to market, in a way nobody else can.

The Team Behind the Innovation
The Kitovu team is made up of a mix of young people passionate and connected by a shared one belief; “that the emerging markets can be transformed through agriculture if we deploy technology to tackle the problems that make that sector very unproductive”. Our team brings a relative balance to the team in terms of industry experience, customer insight, and management. We have a cumulative experience that is over 27 years.
