Kitkit School is a child-centered, tablet-based, personalized early learning system, proven to engage and teach children how to read, write, and do basic math, even in under-resourced or nontraditional educational settings and hard-to-reach communities. Kitkit School includes three main components: -The Kitkit School Learning App: an adaptive Pre-K through 2nd grade literacy and math curriculum with over 2,400+ learning games and hundreds of embedded quizzes -A built-in Library: hundreds of books and learning videos -A suite of Tools: music and art tools to support creative self-expression Kitkit School comes to life with an intuitive and engaging user experience that overcomes cultural boundaries. Furthermore, its flexible learning architecture allows us to tailor Kitkit School to meet user and partner needs (e.g. second language learning with mother tongue support for refugee children, sign language functionality for children hard of hearing, native language literacy for low-resource schools). Through our diverse partnerships with governments, educators, and international development organizations, we build capacity for scaling innovation and inspire breakthroughs in the way the world supports children’s learning. Embedded in an ecosystem of support with hands-on services and training, Kitkit School works to ensure that schools and communities with no prior experience with ICT interventions, just like students, are able to adopt with success that’s built to last.

Stage 5: Scaling

In the midst of the global learning disruption due to COVID-19, the team has provided access to Kitkit School through an online distribution platform. Since July 2020, we have reached over 272 organizations in 52 countries, issuing more than 6,000 licenses. At the same, the team established distribution partners in Tanzania and Uganda who can support the procurement of goods and implementation of Kitkit School project by organizations in the region. We have created a Bahasa Indonesian version (Sekolah Enuma) which will be piloted to 2,000 children in 2021. The Bahasa literacy module will be released to the general public for free to be used as a tool for fighting literacy challenges, and a donor partner will be supporting interested NGO’s adoption of the solution. Enuma is setting up the Indonesian office to help support the scaling up. We will be developing the Spanish version in 2022 with a similar partnership structure as in Indonesia. In the mean time, notable partners are continuing to expand the use of Kitkit School in the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh and the Philippines.

According to UNESCO, 617 million children and adolescents worldwide are not reaching minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. In addition, 263 million are out of school and 68.8 million new teachers will be needed to ensure that every child has basic education by 2030. While schooling has expanded at an impressive rate in recent decades, there is an urgent need to address the persistent challenges facing educational systems today and more effectively support every child’s success.

Kitkit School reduces global illiteracy by bringing high-quality learning experiences to the children who need them most around the globe. Kitkit School can be delivered anywhere and is open-sourced so that anyone can take advantage of the educational opportunities it offers. It is designed to engage and empower early learners, reduce barriers to their success, and address the persistent gaps and challenges facing educational systems today.

Target Beneficiaries

We aim to serve children in early childhood through early elementary as well as youth with learning challenges and those who have not been afforded the opportunity or resources to build foundational literacy, numeracy, and digital skills. We are committed to improving access and equity, and we prioritize the most urgent of needs. We will continue to create new and enhanced adaptations for learners in other languages and regions, with a focus on underserved, disabled, crisis-affected, and hard-to-reach communities around the globe.

Mission and Vision

Our goal is to empower all children around the world to identify themselves as self-confident, independent learners with a lifelong passion for learning. We envision a future where children's success is not bounded by access and where children's learning is driven by their own motivation and natural curiosity. We envision a future where no child, including those with disabilities and affected by crisis, is left behind in learning foundational skills to become a thriving member of society.

Competitive Advantage

Kitkit School sets itself apart in the following ways: 1.) Proven to work for those who need it most - Kitkit School’s unique design approach empowers children who were previously excluded or underserved to teach themselves how to read, write, and do basic math, as proven by the 15-month RCT conducted through the Global Learning XPRIZE 2.) Accessible, child-centered design - Kitkit is acclaimed for its inclusive design principles that are grounded in Universal Design for Learning, with the most vulnerable children and subgroups in mind, and for pioneering new accessibility features such as sign-language support that ensure each child is engaged and at the center 3.) Continuous improvement and adaptation - Based on an open-sourced code and flexible architecture, Kitkit School is continuously evolving to improve its learning efficacy (leveraging big data and AI). Together with our partners and the communities we serve, we ensure that Kitkit School is responsive to needs as we adapt the program in new languages and contexts to maximize learning outcomes, build local capacity, and ultimately reach hundreds of millions of children worldwide

Planned Goals and Milestones

We plan to localize and contextualize our product in multiple languages. Starting with Indonesia in 2021, we are seeking strategic partners who can develop and distribute Enuma School together in a few focus countries in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa. As in the case for Indonesia, we hope to be able to release the local literacy module for free to the general public and enable implementing partners to run literacy programs through the product.
